Who is ABILITIES Beyond Disabilities’ licensing authority?

Virginia Department of Behavioral Heath & Developmental Services (DBHDS).  We have had license #460 for 22 years!

What are ABILITIES’ hours of availability?

ABILITIES main administrative office is open 8am-6pm, Monday-Thursday (Friday by appointment).  In-Home Service hours are between 7am-11pm, Sunday-Saturday.  The Supported Living Service offers 24-hour access to a Direct Support Professional staff.

How do I qualify for services?

In-Home Services are available for children and adults who have intellectual/developmental disabilities and have the FIS or CL Medicaid Waiver.  Supported Living Services are available to adults who have intellectual/developmental disabilities and have the FIS or CL Medicaid Waiver.

Does ABILITIES Beyond Disabilities accept private pay?

ABILITIES accepts both Medicaid Waivers (FIS and CL) and private pay.  Private pay residents may pay using ACH or check.  Medicaid Waiver residents’ services are billed directly to Medicaid.

What are Medicaid Waiver Supported Living Services?

Supported Living services are funded by the Virginia Department of Medical Assistance Services through the Community Living Waiver and Family & Individual Supports Waiver. Supported Living services take place in an apartment/house setting and are operated by ABILITIES.  Assistance with independent living is available around the clock by paid staff who can respond in a timely manner. These supports enable an individual to acquire, retain, or improve skills necessary to reside successfully in their home and community. 

What are Medicaid Waiver In-Home Services?

In-Home Services are funded by the Virginia Department of Medical Assistance Services through the Community Living Waiver and Family & Individual Supports Waiver. In-home services are provided while the individual resides at home alone/with family, or a residence considered their home, and are delivered pursuant to an amount of weekly hours required to safely and efficiently support the individual’s unique personal goals. These supports enable an individual to acquire, retain, or improve skills necessary to continue to reside successfully in their home and community. 

What is the difference between the In-Home and Supported Living services?

One difference key difference between the In-Home and Supported Living service is the staff oversight. The Supported living residential service is provided to the individual in the form of around-the-clock availability of paid provider staff who have the ability to respond in a timely manner. In-home services are provided while the individual resides at home alone/with family, or a residence considered their home, and are delivered pursuant to an amount of weekly hours required to safely and efficiently support the individual’s unique -personal goals.

What payment types are accepted by ABILITIES for In-Home and Supported by Living Services?

In-Home and Supported Living Services can be paid for using a CL or FIS Waiver.
